The personal blood test revolution…Introducing Medichecks

Ride.Achieve.Celebrate

More Info

Living in the information age we have more and more access to knowledge on whatever subject we happen to be passionate about.  The wellbeing industry offers much to stay on top of our health with an ever increasing number of products and tools to give us what we need. Our passion for exercise has for many of us, fed our desire to understand more about how the body works and what the physical, mental and emotional benefits of all of the above have on us.

I discovered Medichecks at the Cycle Show at the NEC, Birmingham UK earlier in 2018. Fascinated by the link between health, performance and exercise routine, the more I got into exercise, I found myself taking more of an interest  in diet. This in turn has like many of us, given me a thirst for all things about the body. Not only am I interested in what helps me achieve full potential on the bike, or in the swimming pool for example, the idea of having the best quality of life during the years I am alive is of interest to me.

Knowledge Breeds Confidence

Those of who subscribe to the ‘prevention is better than cure’ philosophy of health like the idea of being able to build a picture of our health prior to symptoms occurring as it perhaps gives us a chance to sit in the driver’s seat of our wellbeing.

Medichecks offer us the chance to build an indepth picture of the make-up of our bodies, through empowering us to take and submit a blood sample without setting foot in a doctor’s surgery. Following approx 15 mins of painless admin by a customer and a few days postage time, the company has the capacity to analyze blood and measure over 80 different substances. With a sound awareness of different people’s wants and needs, they have created several different branded tests, with pre grouped items to test and feedback on. I spent about 5 minutes online, building a picture of my dietary and exercise habits as well as brief overview of my medical history.

With a summary of all areas, this has given me a dashboard that in time will shed more and more light on my physical make up, and what I hope can give me much insight that can help me eat and exercise appropriately. In the not too distant future, knowledge of blood analysis may well be commonplace amongst us all, but being at the front of this curve and acting ahead of such tests many of us would perhaps normally expect to receive later in life as a result of symptoms feels good. I look forward to sharing the results of my test soon.

The test I’m doing…Endurance Fit

Why take this test?

  • you want to optimise your race performance
  • you want to avoid injury and maximise recovery
  • you want a detailed look at hormones and nutrition that affect performance

This advanced profile for endurance athletes covers all the bases, looking at markers which can help identify overtraining and injury as well as those that could cause lack of energy and motivation. Use this test to establish your pre-training baseline and then track changes as your training load increases.

This profile includes tests for inflammation and muscle damage, cholesterol for cardiovascular risk, hormones which can be affected by training such as testosterone, oestradiol and cortisol as well as markers for fatigue such as a full iron profile and vitamin B12.

All results will be reviewed by a qualified doctor who can advise you on what changes you need to make to your training and nutrition.

Note: This is not a paid for blog article.
