Vuelta San Sebastian Tour 2019
Friday 21st June 2019
Please aim to arrive in the morning at Bilbao airport so you can be picked up and taken 4 star Arima Hotel, just outside San Sebastian. This hotel is frequently used by Pro Teams and has quick and easy access to great local. This afternoon we do a half-day warm up ride out of San Sebastián, then enjoy San Sebastián's famous pintxos bars.

Abraham Olano, winner of La Vuelta in 1995 and still the only man to win both the World Road and the World Team Trial Championships rides with us today. There's no-one better to share the Basque passion for cycling and we begin with a steady 44km ascent along the banks of the beautiful Urumea River then through Goizueta before heading down into Leitza. Its then two more shorter climbs before heading back to San Sebastián for recovery time before dinner. Its a hard choice between one of San Sebastián's many Michelin-starred restaurants or another 'ruta de pintxos'.

Today's route heads along stunning coastal roads, beautiful rolling green hills, punchy climbs, including the Balcón de Bizkaia (La Vuelta debut in 2018) From Guernica, we head on a 19km climb averaging 4.8% however its the last 3.5km at 12.2% that will really 'reward' you with spectacular panoramic views on the 'Basque Balcony' (The last section is up and back down, so optional for those who don't fancy it!). We arrive back at our Bilbao base in time for a bite to eat and a transfer to the airport for the evening flight home.

Many of Spain's greatest cyclists have come from the beautiful and challenging hills of the Basque Country.
