The Vuelta a La Rioja. 12 -16 JUNE.

Our ‘Vuelta a La Rioja’ has something for everyone with quiet rolling roads, vineyards, challenging climbs in the surprisingly mountainous areas surrounding Logroño, fantastic food and visits to some of Rioja’s finest bodegas. The routes are planned in collaboration with former professional cyclist Abraham Olano and his local riding buddies to make sure you experience the best of the Rioja region.

Day 1  - Wednesday 12th June 2019

Bilbao airport pickup in the evening and transfer straight to Logroño where we have you staying in the stylish boutique hotel Eurostar Ruavieja on the Camino de Santiago. The hotel has a spa and all the luxuries you'll need.

Day 2 - Thursday 13th June 2019

Abraham Olano, winner of La Vuelta in 1995 and the only man ever to win both the World Road Championship and the World Time Trial Championship will be taking you out. Abraham used to plan La Vuelta routes which makes him the perfect guide. Two main climbs come in this first day: The Valdezcaray ski station and beyond (22km at 5.1% to an altitude of 1,972m) and the Cruz de la Demanda (average gradient of 5.7% with ramps of 14%) Then its a decent back to Ezcaray where, having climbed almost 3,000m in 122km, you can choose to stop, or if you're still feeling strong you can ride the extra 50km back to Logroño. In the evening, you can choose to have a bodega tour and dinner with Abraham in a famous Riojan winery, or just enjoy a tapas tour of the town.

Day 3 - Friday 14th June 2019

Today is just over 100km taking in a bodega visit or two and 2,000m of elevation. Puerto Herrer: the ascent is over 10km at an average of 6%+, with ramps of 15% making you work for stunning views of the Rioja countryside. Most of the ride is in the beautiful rolling hills of the Basque Country and we cross into Castille and Leon before descending back into Logroño for an evening of tapas and Rioja.

Day 4 - Saturday 15th June 2019

The third day takes us south again, to the beautiful Sierra de Cebollera. We start around 15km outside of Logroño, to make the day a more manageable 147km, although you might decide to start earlier and ride out through the vineyards. The first 25km is a steady climb above a impressive gorge, before a short descent and the challenging and beautiful Puerto la Rasa climb (10km at over 5%). The second climb of the day is Peña Hincada, similar in length and difficulty and with the significant upside of a thrilling 40km descent before another short climb and descent into Logroño.

Day 5 - Sunday 16th June 2019

We recommend an evening departure flight back so you have the opportunity to join a group from a local club on their morning ride, stopping at their favourite café, before lunch in Logroño and heading back to the airport.

Single room supplement £200.

Non-cycling partner supplement £200.
