Road Cycling Sportives in France tend to happen in the Alps and Pyrenees. From the mighty Etape du Tour, through to the Marmotte Alps or Pyrenees, these events are bucket list Sportives. With anywhere from 5000 to 15000 riders taking part, many of them occur on closed roads so you can have a taste of how a Pro would feel.
Our personal favourite is the Etape du Tour. Taking place every year, you get the chance to cycle a full mountain stage of the Tour de France on completely closed roads. There are normally around 12-15000 riders from across the world taking part and it happens a couple of days before the Pro peloton comes through.
The other big Sportive is Paris Roubaix. In April, you can ride this one day classic and test yourself over the famed cobbles (or pave) It is an event that every cyclist should try before hanging up their cleats !
