With 135km distance and 4563m of climbing, this will be a very challenging Etape du Tour. Finishing at 2365m above sea level in Val Thorens, it will offer a major mountain finish with 15000 riders keen to tackle it.
Its an iconic route between Albertville (1992 Winter Olympics host) and Val Thorens, part of Le Trois Vallees. Cyclists climb the Cormet de Roselend with its stunning views over the beautiful blue waters of Lac de Roselend, before a swift descent into the valley before heading up the Notre Dame de Pre. We then descend to Moutiers and then its time to take on the epic & grueling climb up to Val Thorens at 2365m!

The distance of 60km between the Albertville start and Val Thorens finish make a case for traveling with the right operator with the right accommodation location. A start line base will equate to an extremely long ride back, after all that climbing you might want to think twice to make post ride chapter an easy one. Also with Val Thorens being a cul de sac, riders would be advised to consider ride access on the days before and after the event, should they be staying over several days and want to maximize time in the saddle.
The Etape du Tour is a closed road virtual Tour de France experience. Run by the ASO, it’s perhaps the closest you can get to being a Tour de France cyclist, riding more or less at the same time, in the same place as the pro’s. With an entourage and motorcade it really feels like the real thing.
