Milano Sanremo - Sanremo, Italy
"La Classicissima" is the annual cycle race between Milan and San Remo and it is also the first Monument of the season.
Stealing the crown as the longest one day race at 298km long, the Pro Race is a brutal test. Due to the time of year, Sportive is a shortened version and takes place on the Sunday 18th March. Echoing the previous day's race, it includes the climbs of the Poggio and the Cipressa, following the final part of the Milan San Remo race. You will climb 2400m and finish on top of the Poggio before descending back to San Remo.
Whilst it may not seem like it, the Pro Race is considered the sprinter's Classic due to having far less elevation to tackle. 110 years since the very first race, the Milan San Remo has secured its top 10 status on the calendar. Sanremo is a large town with much to keep all entertained.
With the start and finish of Sunday's race, accommodation is conveniently situated with easy access to and from the event.
The nearest airport, Nice Cote de Zur Airport is 65km from San Remo centre, taking approximately 60 minutes by car.
Also, weather is brisk at this time of year with a 20% chance of rain and average daily temperatures of 13 degrees. Hence, as with all spring Sportives, pack clothing suitable for all potential weather conditions.
